About this deal

I’m kind of disappointed that it already became pretty obvious after that point due to the author pointing out certain reactions (in conversations, actions, et cetera) of the murderer.

We are instantly introduced to this posh high-school, where Jess feels an instant disadvantage being “the scholarship girl”. There are dead ends, red herrings and untrustworthy characters, as well as prep, lacrosse practices and shared dorms. So the subplot of bringing down the Regia Club and trying to work out who is in this cultish organisation that appears to rule the school really fits the dark academia genre. As Jess is both from a working class background and from an Indian family, we get to see various prejudices in action.Háblenme de cómo no están hasta el cuello de bebés, ese es un misterio más grande que el asesino de esta historia.

And he’ll discover that not everything is quite what it seems under the mayor’s harsh leadership I really enjoyed Pax and the Missing Head. But as one of two scholarship kids—and among a few rare non-white students—Jess Choudhary has a different view of the school.Jess was a very convincing character worried about her place in school and concerned her mum would have made the sacrifices in vain to fund her place.

The note pages were also a great addition and I think that more books should add this as it makes the whole experience really engaging; it feels like you also solved the murder! With time running out, Jess knows if she doesn’t solve this mystery she’ll finally have something in common with Hugh Henry. I really liked the protagonist we had in Jess and felt like she had amazing potential, but I’m still undecided on whether the book brought out her true character well. The author added quite a few red herrings throughout the book that almost steered me off the right path, and added quite a few memorable clues that by the end of the book I found myself looking back at some of the subtle details and thinking "damn, I should've seen this one coming".

The plot gradually felt like it was broaching on more unrealistic territory which I struggle with in crime. It's a murder plot in a school, done before maybe, but this YA was hugely enjoyable, with a two-timing murder victim, a secret society, love interests, detectives and police involvement, and a scholarship student caught up in a fight for her education. This interaction with the book made me completely forget whether my prediction was predictable or not.

There were so many different elements all tied up together that it was hard to work out what was connected to what and what was just a red herring. And when it’s clear the murders aren’t over, it’s a race against time for the banded team Jess puts together to solve not only Hugh’s murder, but potentially stop her own. A Millie le encanta hacer rabietas donde todo el mundo la vea, a Clem le gusta ir actuando como una tonta sin cerebro, pero de buen corazón, por todas partes. I had super high hopes for this book, because it features a lot of things and tropes I enjoy: it’s a murder mystery set in a boarding school for rich people, but out main character is a scholarship student who has written the story that inspired the murderer and she becomes a teen sleuth to solve the mystery because the police is slow and/or corrupted. At once fun, twisty and insightful, This Book Kills is a gripping murder mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.Ravena is a lawyer with a degree in biochemistry, and hopes to use the knowledge gained from her experiences to plot the perfect murder (for a book, of course! Now, I will admit this wasn’t a perfect book by any means, and I had the murderer figured out even before the murders were actually committed, but I don’t really mind, because I can see a lot of people being shocked by one particular twist and overall I care more about the crafting of the mystery plot and the journey to get to the reveal than the reveal itself.
