About this deal

There are two options here. In the 120Hz mode, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G should comfortably see you through a full day of moderately enthusiastic use, with some YouTube streaming and hours of audio streaming.

Xiaomi says it can get you from flat to 50% in 15 minutes; a full charge takes 42 minutes. In our tests, we reached 48% in 15 minutes, which isclose enough given it would hit 50% before the 16-minute mark. Calls to 05, 08 and 07 special numbers including calls and texts to Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man landline or mobiles This camera is based around the 108MP Samsung HM2 camera, seen in a bunch of phones including the Xiaomi 11T Pro and Honor 50. It’s a solid, but not top-end, camera sensor. We found that while this phone and the old one are reasonably evenly matched, this one seems to deliver less consistent results and struggles in some scene types the old one didn’t as much. We captured a few too many blown-out skies, and it frequently fumbles dusk scenes. The phone has the tools to avoid the primary issues these scenes raise, but the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro doesn’t always seem to use them. Xiaomi has excelled itself with the 6.43-inch AMOLED screen on the Redmi Note 11. With a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, 1000 nits peak brightness and a 90Hz refresh rate, it's superb for everything from browsing the web to watching movies streamed from the web. There's no HDR support, but it's not something that you'll really miss.Xiaomi launched several stand-out affordable phones last year, such as the surprisingly powerful Poco X3 Pro and the glass-reared Redmi Note 10 Pro, with its low-bloat camera array. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has little of this “stand out” character.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro provides you with an incredible photography experience, all in one smartphone device. Battery life in the 60Hz mode is noticeably better, enough to get you to 30-plus per cent residual charge by bed time with the same kind of moderate use, without periods of battery-draining gaming. But again, the Nokia G50 has a very slight edge with a touch more detail (look at the triangular light to the right of the plant), and the increased contrast makes for an overall more pleasing shot. It's the same story with the storage. The basic Note 11 Pro comes with just 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. That's awfully pokey for a 2022 phone, but there are two ways around that if you don't mind spending extra. You can spec 128GB storage, either with 6GB or 8GB RAM, or use the SD card slot that will support up to another 1TB of space. We found that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus just isn’t great as a simple point-and-shoot camera: when we treated it like one, we stumbled into issues like skies that were blown out, animals that were out of focus and details in darker areas that were completely lost.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G’s 8MP ultra-wide is passable, but its images are a lot softer up close than its predecessor’s 16MP ones. No surprise there. There’s also an obvious drop in dynamic range, and you can’t use the Night mode in tandem with the ultra-wide. Fortnite plays at up to 30fps with reasonable solidity, apart from the usual drop as fresh assets are loaded. However, you can only run it at medium settings, meaning it just doesn’t look quite as good as it does on a more powerful phone. The rear camera does okay, up to a point, but it's one of the weakest cameras we've seen on a smartphone lately. That's not to say it's bad, exactly, in decent lighting: you'll get snaps that are more than good enough for social media most of the time, and occasionally you'll get a really impressive shot or two. Plus, the large battery with 67W Turbo Charging allows you to be on the go in a pinch, with 50% of charge in just 15 minutes. All other parts of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G interface are business as usual. Xiaomi lets you choose whether or not to use an app drawer. Classic soft keys and gesture navigation are options, too. Redmi Note 11 Pro: Price UK

This has very much been a review of two halves: on the one hand, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11’s design and screen are truly top-notch and a great example of how you make a phone on a budget. But its performance is inconsistent in benchmarks and it offers underwhelming 3D gaming potential compared to its rivals. Its cameras are okay, but you can do better for the money. It’s a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. In person, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G display compares at least fairly well with any phone at any price.
