You’ll notice the Warmlite is a little lower in output compared to our two space heaters above, being just 1.2kW. Typically, this is a big enough heater to heat a small space. This compact halogen heater is exceptionally easy to use, with the heating element offering three heat settings: 400 W, 800 W and 1200 W. The buttons are located along the top of the unit and are easy to operate. It oscillates through 90° which is useful for rooms with several people. Alternatively, you can use a thermal imaging camera or pay for a thermal imaging survey or air tightness test.

Turn down the thermostat. During colder weather, it's easy to turn up the heat in your home to help take the chill off and warm your home faster. But in fact, keeping your heating at a more ambient temperature of 18°C or 19°C can keep your home just as warm, but will also save you money on heating bills.

In terms of heating, you’ll find the 2500W halogen heating element positively belches heat. It is made all the more efficient and effective thanks to a stainless steel reflector. The latter enables you to focus all that energy on warming a specific area rather than dispersing it wastefully into the air. Who Should Buy This? The next step for us was to look at all of the products that fall within the Heaters and radiators category, of which we found 55 products at Argos. So we pulled together all of the prices of these products to analyse the average prices as well as finding the cheapest and most expensive options. Another thing to keep in mind is the heat setting. All of the halogen heaters on this list have heat modes that facilitate heating at different wattages. So, if circumstances allow, try to dial bak the heat whenever possible — this will save you money. Read our energy-saving tips and the myths that won't do much What type of electric heater would be best? The first is brand. Looking at the brand of the product is often a really good indicator for judging product quality. For example you’d expect a much higher quality product from a brand known for providing excellent quality than you would from an unknown or even a budget brand.

The 3kW DXFF30TSN space heater from Dimplex is more than big enough to heat a small room, a compact space such as a campervan, or even a converted-into-office garage or a small home gym. Weight In contrast, most other heaters actually release warmth into the surrounding air. So, if you’ve got an oil filled radiator running for a while, eventually your room will become warmer. But you’ll have to bundle up while this warmth builds up — it’s definitely not instantaneous. As we already mentioned above, this heater is only 800 W, so keep this lower-than-normal power setting in mind. Any electric heating system should only be installed in a well-insulated property, because electricity is expensive – much more than oil, or gas, per unit.So an oil-filled radiator in the lounge might make sense, and you can set the thermostat so it automatically turns off when the desired temperature is reached. Electricity costs vary throughout the UK, but in 2022 and the future, you can probably expect to pay 28p/kWh.

You could use a timer to make sure the heaters in the bedroom go off automatically after a certain time, but also so that they come on say half an hour before people are likely to go to bed. This might be particularly suitable if you have elderly guests. Keep in mind, too, that the cheaper brands aren’t likely to come with a warranty, compared with Dimplex’s 3-year warranty offering. Power output You could broadly say that convection fires are better for heating a larger space over a longer period of time, e.g. hours, whereas radiant fires are better for heating a smaller space directly in just minutes.

This electric heater is stable thanks to the large supportive stand, and it also has a safety cut-out switch. Halogen heaters are lightweight and fast-warming. Once turned on, a halogen heater will warm up within seconds. You’ve probably come across storage heaters if you’re on an Economy 7 or 10 tariff. They resemble electric radiators, and can store heat while you’re on your evening tariff, then let you use it in the day.
