About this deal

The reason I am sharing this is because I knew I needed help and I have spent thousands on talking therapy and psychotherapy that helped short term.

He talks about how growing up with a father who was schizophrenic and bipolar, left alarm signals, imprinted in his body. I wrote this book to make my father’s eventual suicide and the suffering of my family mean to help others like me who experienced chronic worry to understand and fix the pain that was sucking the life out of their lives. The book has a storytelling theme to it, in which both the neuroscience and the wisdom are shared in compassionate and ultimately practical ways.Using a combination of neuroscience, somatic work and psychedelics, I’ve uncovered a brand new way of approaching and healing anxiety in myself and my patients. This read will have you realising that there are experiences that you still carry, consciously or unconsciously, through no fault of your own, they're not your burden to carry anymore, and you can effectively reparent the younger self, thus discharging the experience and allowing space for new thought and behaviours. I don’t browse self-help genre anymore and something written on psychology is a no go area for me as I have found that most of it is toxic psychology which cajoles readers into believing that being self-centred, self-absorbed, self-loving and walling themselves within a fortress of boundaries are the ways to live a fulfilling life. Although I’ll talk about my patient’s experiences with anxiety as well as my own, everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life. Now, along with my inner child practice and the ABCs, I remain not only vigilant for self-hating thoughts, but also for fantasies of grandeur, knowing that they are the cunning work of the ego dragon.

It’s fundamental knowledge of psychology that negative thoughts influence affect/emotion, which in turn affects behaviour. I don’t begrudge him the potential of these drugs, but a lot of his musings about it feel esoteric and not particularly grounded in reality. Readers learn how to sever the connection between the somatic alarm and the flood of anxious thoughts—in the process they begin to heal old trauma and gain a sense of control previously unknown. I will reread many sections so I can truly grasp the depth of his uncover truth to anxiety and worry that no other book has done for me.Russ offers techniques not only for our thinking minds, but for our feeling bodies, changing not just our mindset, but our 'body-set'. It took me about two and half weeks to read the book, along with reviews here and there, plus episodes of Kennedy's podcast.
