About this deal

Bottom: 4K digital with HDR toning is much more dramatic, with a balanced grayscale from shadows to highlights. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more.

From its opening logos, you’re under no illusion that this is pure Luhrmann – he might have been away from our screens since 2013’s ‘ The Great Gatsby’, but he’s lost nothing of his visual sensibilities: the entire film is a whirligig of kaleidoscopic images, split-screen montages stitched together with machine gun editing and a kinetic sense of motion that never lets up across its 159-minute run-time. Elvis” [2022] was one very unique biopic that managed to tell the story of Elvis Presley and his crooked manager in a different way than we had ever experienced in the past. Whether it be a live performance or music carrying the film into a montage, it is perfectly engulfing of your viewing space.

Immediately you will undoubtedly notice that the height channels are used very tastefully for mostly the music and sound effects, to help build this large sound (as mentioned) which seems very fitting about this Atmos mix. This comes with rich vibrant colors that “pop” all throughout the film, many thanks to its opening beautiful logo, the fantastic costume design, larger-than-life set pieces, a perfectly solid black level, accurate flesh tones, and all of which look downright stunning in 4K with HDR. Sure, folks like Charlie Hodge are depicted and even highlighted by name for a short scene but it’s nothing like the 1979 TV Movie “Elvis” where Charlie Hodge played a larger role and actually played himself. moments without necessarily feeling overcooked, and regularly reaches into the rear and Atmos-exclusive height channels at opportune moments. Austin Butler is simply tremendous as Elvis – within minutes, you’ve forgotten you’re not watching the real Presley and sink into his portrayal.

The mixing of the songs is nigh on perfect – the bass and its use of the LFE channel is tight and deep, but fast and never resorts to booming or overt spot blasts of LFE. Overall clarity is excellent, revealing pores in the actors’ faces, individual sequins in the costumes, and, unfortunately, the bad prosthetics on Hanks. Baz Luhrmann's expectedly electric biopic of the King of Rock 'n' Roll offers an arresting central performance by Austin Butler, as the peaks and valleys of Elvis Presley's performing career are recounted through the deathbed reflections of ex-manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), the Southern Svengali who cannily trained the Tupelo youngster's charismatic gifts on the American public-and just as ruthlessly exploited them. Sound effects get mixed into the front and rear channels, not just the height channels (again, as mentioned) and it creates one massive audio experience here. Luhrmann is Australian and he and a few others talk about how Australia and Los Angeles were used as the locations for the film.

Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis's life, Priscilla Presley. A real surprise is that Paramount ported over the 4K master with Dolby Vision and HDR10 toning for the majority of the digital platforms.
