The other thing to point out is of course, most games do use surround sound and you would be far better off running the PS3 into the HDMI and using the amp for everything! It’s not just games you can use the GamePad for. It can also be used as an impromptu TV remote (even when the Wii U is turned off), and its front-facing camera can be used to call your friends in the Wii U Chat app. Nintendo haven’t yet revealed how many megapixels the camera has, but we were quite impressed with it during our tests. Colours were a little washed out, but we didn’t experience any connectivity issues while trying it out, and our conversations were clear and lag-free. The audio connection (Red and White) may be offset from the video inputs on the TV. If your TV only supports mono sound, just use the White audio plug. For reference, here's the pinout I use to connect all my systems to my monitors. A single common pinout means I don't need a seperate monitor cable for each system. D-terminal is a connector type used mainly in Japan. The resolutions supported by D1 to D5 are as follows:

The main console also houses numerous new software features that make it so much more than simply an HD Wii. You might not think it from looking at it, though, as from the outside, it actually looks very similar to its predecessor. It’s 50mm longer and 9mm taller, but otherwise its overall design remains largely unchanged. The PlayStation 2 can do VGA through this port, however it is software controlled, and since there aren't enough pins for H+V Sync, it uses Sync-On-Green, which not all monitors support. Note: You must add a 220 uF capacitor in each of the RGB lines (+ towards console) to get an acceptable picture. If you don't, the picture will be too dark and you won't like it!!Adjust the system's audio output settings. These settings are mainly used when the system is connected to audio devices that support digital audio output, such as AV amplifiers (receivers) for home entertainment systems. Select the input connector on the audio device. Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use.

Change the resolution for the video output. Depending on the connector type selected in step 4, this screen may not be displayed. When I said the legacy lives on, I wasn’t kidding: many of the Switch’s best-selling games are direct ports of Wii U titles. Mario Kart 8, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freezeand Bayonetta 2 have all been ported, while Splatoon has seen a sequel. In short, if you want a Nintendo console, and can afford the extra, the Switch pretty much has the best of both worlds, with a few exceptions (no sign of a Pikmin 3 port yet.) If [HDMI] is selected, you can also select to automatically adjust the resolution (the HDMI device must be turned on). In this case, the screen for selecting resolutions will not be displayed. Connect the other end of the video cable to your TV. Make note of the input that you are connecting to, as this will allow you to find the correct input when you turn on your TV. Match the colors of the plugs with the colors on the inputs. [3] X Research sourceIf the TV you are using is not a 3D TV, or if you did not select [HDMI] in step 4, this screen will not be displayed. Settings vary depending on supported formats. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the audio device. Resolution (video mode) varies depending on the TV type. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the TV.
