Cooper is in fine form, enjoying something perhaps a little less intense for a live show, with an underlying sense of rock royalty coursing through the music’s veins. Alice is a fantastic vocalist, but I don't like his choices on some of his studio tracks; Department of Youth, Man of the Year, and I'm a Boy are some examples where I consider the live versions to be definitive. Live In Rio has expertly captured a moment in time that until now has been immortalized in only the minds of those fortunate enough to have been there. That setlist featured more of their original tunes and has the current lineup with Glen and Chris, which I think is WAY WAY better than Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan.

He is not just another actor who wants to be a rock star; he fits the part, and being on the stage having to be on a certain level like Perry and the others, is a credit to his talent.

Sure, I’m a big Alice Cooper fan, but for me (and some skeptics) the intrigue of seeing actor Johnny Depp playing in a live setting was the main reason. The concert DVD is the main reason why I got this, but I was educated on a few songs, as well as wanting to watch this fun event again right after watching it, along with the solid quality sound of the show on CD is to be appreciated. I was never a huge Aerosmith fan, but always respected Perry‘s playing, and it’s probably safe to say that being the rock guitar hero he is, he wouldn’t be doing this with an actor if Depp couldn’t hold his own. Starting with a quote from the movie “Dracula” talking about the Children Of The Night and “what music they make” is a perfect intro for the original song “Raise The Dead. The Hollywood Vampires are an interesting blending of three seasoned musicians and one actor that are about as far removed from a supergroup as you could get. Rock in Rio is not only one of the most famous festivals, but also the origin of the Hollywood Vampires' first live album. And it appears the I Got a Line On You video released today has the same edits as the one that’s been on YouTube for a few years, so it seems like the exact same video although Ezrin’s mix sounds way better than the original live video. Just the fact a band playing mostly covers was invited to play Rock In Rio is an impressive feat, but the way in which they clearly nailed it was beyond impressive.

Released on Friday 2nd June 2023 via earMUSIC, the album features Hollywood Vampires’ entire 14-song set in front of 100,000 fans at Rock in Rio in Brazil on 24th September 2015.Unlike their 2015 debut record, the latest album consisted mainly of original material, written by the band. Perry does manage to slip in a few extra notes here and there but never oversteps the mark which is as much a credit to his professionalism as it is his ability. And while the evocation of his name makes for a strange bedfellow to a drinking fraternity that caroused well over a century later, it could be said that he had the Hollywood Vampires firmly in the crosshairs of his immortal lines.

Cooper is an experienced enough vocalist to know just how much of his own DNA he can sprinkle through a song without negating its authenticity, and he once again finds that balance with perfection here. Special guests include Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), and Zak Starkey (The Who / Oasis). As a prelude to this special moment, Hollywood Vampires release a live album, which includes the recording of a show in Rio de Janeiro. If you are an Alice Cooper fan or a fan of the Hollywood Vampires you CANNOT go wrong with this set. That debut was a rare thing indeed, a covers album that did justice to the originals in a new and rewarding way. Who else but Alice could bring together one of Hollywood‘s biggest actors, legendary guitarist Joe Perry, and the bass player and drummer from Guns N’ Roses all together to play a bunch of covers (and an original opening song) to celebrate the past musicians and actors who died too soon due to their lifestyle? Joining them on stage are Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver) and Bruce Witkin (Grammy nominated producer).
